MEDITATION: To Love God and To Join God in Loving (Parashat Va’etchanan)

This meditation explores the ve’ahvta command — love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. It considers first what it feels like to be that devoted to anything — to the point of offering up your life — and then asks — what does it mean to love God, looking at the relationship between receiving and giving love to God, the place where the two meet, what it feels like to be with God in that loving space, and how we might carry that with us into our other relationships, learning to love together with God, both others and ourselves. In the context of learning to love ourselves, there is also a brief consideration of the notion that God is in the inner beggar children in us who are asking for love. Lots here! All centered around the notion of “loving God.”
