MEDITATION: Feeling Like God Hates You — Or You Hate Yourself (Parashat Devarim)

In Moshe’s recounting of the story of the spies, he tells us that the people, after hearing the spies’ report, said, “It was out of hatred for us that God took us out of Egypt to have us destroyed by the Emorites.” In this meditation, we look at this tendency in us — often, as here, despite much evidence to the contrary — to feel that we are hated, not loved, not cared for. We then explore God’s unconditional love for us and practice letting it in and inhabting it in ourselves.
