There are two contrasting scenes of prophetic experience in our parsha, that of the 70 elders, which was mediated through Moshe, and that of Eldad and Medad, which was unmediated and direct, based on their own spiritual capacity. In this meditation, we consider what it would be like to develop the kind of inner authority and courage to be ourselves that Eldad and Medad had, not to give away our power to an external authority, but to find our own inner resources, to trust that we have everything we need inside to connect to God and to our own divine truth and wisdom, and to beleive that we are invited and called to do so, that our unique contribution is very much needed in this world.
