In this meditation, we look closely at Leviticus 19:18, a verse that begins with the prohbitions against taking revenge and holding a grudge and concludes with the pivotal injunction to love one’s neighbor as oneself and the ever present coda, Ani Hashem, I am God. After exploring the ways that revenge and grudges perpetuate cycles of aggression and hatred, we then consider the one force that can help us step out of such cycles — God and the spcial quality of divine love that we are invited to inhabit.
