Moshe expresses great insecurity and inadequacy when called by God to fulfill the mission of redeeming the people. In this meditation, we explore that feeling in Moshe and in ourselves, and then we consider how God’s “I am who I am” name can be understood as a response to this self doubt by modeling for us an alternative way of orienting towards ourselves. Instead of self criticism and a need for perfection, we consider the divine capacity for radical self acceptance and self honoring.
