Yosef’s coat is removed twice in this parsha, once by his brothers when he is thrown into the pit, and again by Potiphar’s wife who grabs hold of his coat as he leaves. In this meditation, we consider the shedding of our own external coats and layers and how that helps us access our divine essence more fully, just as Yosef becomes more connected to God in Egypt. We all have these layers of ego and attachment and insecurity and protective armor. We practice letting go of some of that to see what remains underneath.
