MEDITATION: Avraham’s (And Our) Moment of Pivoting (Rosh Hashanah)

On Rosh Hashanah, we read the story of the Akedah, the binding of Isaac. In this meditation, we focus on one moment of that story, the moment when Avraham hears God’s second call and decides to change course and not to offer up his son as a sacrifice. We consider this moment as a moment of radical teshuva, modeling for us the human capacity to pivot and shift course midstream, and specifically to move from harshness to gentleness. We open to this possibility inside us and also pay attention to the “bound up one,” our inner child, listening to the call to unbind and release her, and to choose life.
