In this meditation, we explore the Amalek inside us, the parts of us that attack us and sap our strength and cause us to doubt ourselves. The shift in the Megillah happens because the king grants permission for the Jews to defend themselves. We, too, are given permission, by the King of Kings, not just given permission, but encouraged and supported, and commanded, even, to do this work of standing up for ourselves against internal — as well as external — attack. We look to Esther as a model for this movement of courage to reclaim our strength, our agency and our autonomy, to learn to speak our truth and take up space even when uninvited.
