In this meditation, we explore the intense feeling contained in the Shabbat song, Tzama Nafshi: “My soul thirsts for God.” We move from a general sense of wanting and restlessness to the ultimate ache underneath it all, the soul’s thirst to reconnect to the divine, and then, in exploring the ache, we discover the Living Presence already inside us, and the joy and song of that energy.
Text of the song:
צמאה נפשי לאלוקים לאל חי
לבי ובשרי ירננו לאל חי
My soul thirst for God, for the living God.
My heart and my flesh, they sing joyfully to the living God.
(Traditional Shabbat song written by the Ibn Ezra)
