Goshen is the land that the brothers live in when they come down to Egypt after Yosef reveals himself and the family is reunited. I understand the word Goshen as related to the words vayigash and geshu na elay, both meaning — coming forward, meeting, coming together. In this meditation, we explore the emotional complexity of the first scene of the parsha, Yosef’s great cry and subsequent reconnection to his family, and we sense into our own deep yearning for connection and attempt to glimpse its fulfillment in the “land of Goshen.”
