MEDITATION: Rivka’s (And Our) Emotional Journey, In Three Parts (Parashat Toldot)

Rivka, now pregnant with twins, feels them struggling inside her, pulling in different directions. In this meditation, we follow her emotional journey from this sense of inner conflict to collapse to seeking God. We work to feel each difficult step, and then the unifying, calming energy of focusing on our deepest desire for divine connection. The meditation is based on one pasuk, divided up into three parts. I seem not to have properly translated the phrases in the meditation itself, so please use this guide to help you follow.

Veytrotzetzu habanim bikirbah — the children struggled [ran and pulled in different directions] inside her

Vatomer — im ken, lamah zeh anokhi — She said: If so [if this is how it is], why do I exist? [why should I live?]

Vatelekh lidrosh et Hashem — She went to seek the Lord.   (Genesis 25:22).
